Google Where Can I Sell My Disney Collection
When I was a kid, I loved Disney movies. Still do really, who am I kidding! When I was a kid I'd watch Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, and Beauty and the Beast movies on VHS tape.
If you did too, you might even have some of your old Disney tapes in a box or drawer somewhere.
Those once beloved VHS tapes got replaced by DVDs, and now, you know streaming services like Netflix and Hulu exist, not to mention Disney Plus. There's really no need for those old Disney VHS tapes anymore.
Luckily, you have quite a few options for selling them, and while you're unlikely to make a ton of money for them, it's still cash in your pocket or bank account that you can spend on whatever you want – perhaps a Disney Plus subscription so you can enjoy those movies again?
If you want to know where to sell Disney VHS tapes, check out these awesome options.
One of the best places to sell Disney VHS tapes is on eBay and there are a couple of reasons for this.
Firstly, eBay is a super popular website that gets literally MILLIONs of visitors each month, and with one quick listing, you could reach a huge customer base. Sure, not every one of those people is going to see your post but many will.
You'll reach customers all over the world too. So, your income won't be limited to just who's willing to purchase the tapes locally.
Secondly, you can choose to ship the tapes off rather than having to meet up in person with some random person.
A lot of people, like me, don't like meeting in person. It takes time out of your day, you'll get time wasters who simply don't show up, and you don't know who you're meeting.
With eBay, you're able to mail out your tapes at your leisure all without having to meet up with anyone.
eBay allows sellers to list up to 50 items for free – so if you have a large collection, this is pretty useful because you're not having to spend money upfront to offload your collection.
When your stuff sells, the site does charge you a 10% commission fee, for, you know all of the convenience of selling on there, I guess!
Now, finally, why I think that eBay is one of your best options is that you can set your own prices as well. This just gives you a little more control over the amount of money you earn selling your Disney VHS tapes.
2. Craigslist
Next up we have Craigslist. If you don't mind meeting up with someone to sell locally, then do consider this one. It's a good place for listing stuff for sale in general because it doesn't charge you any fees for posting a listing.
That's always good because when you're looking to sell something for cash, you don't want to, well, part with cash, right?
It gets better too. Craigslist also doesn't charge any commission fees. So when your VHS tapes sell, you get to keep 100% of the profits.
Upload a listing and wait for your tapes to sell.
3. Pawn shops
I would also recommend going to a local pawn shop and seeing if they would be willing to purchase your tapes. Some will.
Pawnshops are a good option if you want money fast because they, typically, pay you on the spot.
The downside with these places though is that they don't always provide you with the best price. This is because pawn shops want to make a profit, so they generally offer you a lower price than what your items are worth.
Still though, for getting money fast, pawn shops are definitely a good option.
To find pawn shops near you, open up Google, or whatever search engine it is that you use, and enter the term, "pawn shop near me."
This should give you plenty of pawnshops that are nearby. It's always good to call ahead to check what types of items the shop purchases so you don't waste your time going down there only to find they don't buy what it is you're looking to sell.
4. OfferUp
Want a place where you can list your Disney VHS tapes for sale, set your own prices, and get your listing in front of lots of potential buyers near you?
Well, then you may want to give OfferUp a try. OfferUp, if you don't already know, is a website and app where people can buy and sell things locally. This includes, of course, Disney VHS tapes!
You can create a listing pretty quickly on there and have your tapes in front of tons of customers in no time.
It's free to put up a listing on OfferUp too, which is always a bonus!
5. 5miles
Like OfferUp, 5miles allows you to sell your stuff to people locally. It's an app where people can buy and sell a variety of items to people near them. You could list your tapes on there and you get to set your own prices. This is always a good thing because it can give you more control over the amount of money you're earning from your sales.
What's even better is that it's free to list your stuff for sale on there. That's pretty awesome, right?
6. Facebook Marketplace
Another place you can try if you're wondering where to sell Disney VHS tapes is Facebook Marketplace.
Yes, this is another really good option that allows you to list your tapes for sale.
It's great if you have tapes that you're looking to sell locally. The platform allows you to list items for free, so you don't have to worry about spending any money when offloading your collection.
You're able to set your own prices as well, so you aren't at the whim of a store, like a pawn shop, for example, to give you an offer for your tapes.
7. Thrift store
Why not contact your local thrift store to check if they'd be interested in purchasing your Disney tapes?
You never know, they may well be. Thrift stores can be found in most towns and cities, so there's likely one near you.
Open up Google, or whatever search engine you use, enter the phrase "thrift store near me," and hit search. This should find nearby thrift stores.
I'd recommend you call ahead to check if they purchase Disney VHS tapes. Since many thrift stores are looking for cool and unique stuff to sell, they may be interested in your Disney tapes.
Now, because thrift stores are known for their low prices, it means that you won't always get the best price for your stuff. These stores want to make a profit reselling items, so they tend to offer you a lower price. Selling to the thrift store can be a good way to get cash fast for your tapes because they often pay you on the spot.
8. Etsy
While you may think of Etsy as that place where you buy and sell handmade and vintage stuff, it's actually an awesome platform for selling anything really.
Have a quick search on there, and you'll see lots of sellers who're listing their old Disney tapes for sale.
Although most people aren't necessarily coming to Etsy for Disney VHS tapes, because the site is mostly focused on handmade goods and vintage pieces, you may still find the right buyer on there, because Etsy actually sells a wide variety of products.
Etsy can be a good alternative to eBay. It's not as good for tapes, specifically, but it's definitely worth a try.
You'll need to pay $0.20 per listing on Etsy, and when your items sell, you also have to pay a 5% transaction fee and 3% plus $0.25 payment processing fee.
This is definitely one of the downsides of Etsy and what sets it back slightly compared to other places like 5miles and OfferUp, which allow you to list items for free.
Still though, Etsy gets millions of visitors so it's certainly a contender in the selling sphere.
9. Flea market
Flea markets can be a good place to sell a larger collection of tapes. They're a particularly good option if you have other stuff to sell as well.
What's good about flea markets is that you can often tap into a market of customers that you may not find online. And, you can get cash on the spot too!
The only issue with flea markets is that you'll typically need to pay to rent a table or booth, the cost of which can cut into your profits.
Still though, it's an option worth considering!
10. Yard sale
Why not have a good old fashioned yard sale? If you have a lot of stuff to sell, then it's an option that you could try.
Although it's more old-fashioned than selling online, it can be a great option because you can often tap into a market of people who don't do much shopping online and prefer to shop in person instead.
With a yard sale, you can also get paid on the spot, which is always ideal, because who doesn't want to make money fast?
Now, the downside with yard sales is that people are mostly there to find bargains so you might not always get the full value of your tapes. That being said, you get to set your own prices, and you're paid fast as well.
Are Disney VHS Tapes Worth Money?
A quick search online brings up stories of people listing their old Disney VHS tapes on eBay, for like $10,000 or something crazy like that. Thing is, these tapes don't sell for that amount. The amount of money you'll get for your tapes will be far less than that.
Yes, even if it's one of those Black Diamond tapes that everyone claims are super rare and valuable. The thing is, those tapes aren't rare enough to fetch $10k. They are, however, becoming somewhat of a collectible item that people are willing to pay money for. Not $10k, but still, you could make $20 or so if you have a tape from the Black Diamond Collection.
What are Disney Black Diamond Tapes?
The Disney Black Diamond collection refers to the original Walt Disney Classics series of Disney VHS tapes that were released between 1984 and 1994. These tapes have a Walt Disney Classics logo on the spine, and this logo is shaped like a black diamond. 20 different animated Disney movies were included in the collection.
These tapes are more valuable than other types of Disney VHS tapes, but, as I said earlier, despite reports, these don't sell for thousands.
Other tapes that can be worth more
Tapes that have misprints on the cover and limited releases may also be able to garner higher prices.
Also, the cover art for The Little Mermaid VHS tape was banned (Google it if you want to know the reason for the ban). Apparently, VHS tapes with this banned cover can garner a little more money. However, these "banned cover" tapes were not that rare since Disney released quite a few of these before they were recalled from stores.
How much can I get for my Disney VHS tapes?
I did some research online to see what other people are selling their tapes for.
Here's what you can expect to sell your Disney tapes for:
- Regular VHS tapes tend to sell for between $1 and $10 per tape.
- Black Diamond tapes tend to sell for between $20 and $50 per tape.
If you have a couple of Black Diamond tapes, then you could bring in $40 to $100 potentially.
And, if you have a large collection of regular Disney tapes, you could still bring in $100s.
The amount of money you'll earn all depends on how many tapes you have to sell, and what type of tapes they are. Like I said before, those Black Diamond tapes can bring in more money.
Takeaway
If you've been wondering where to sell Disney VHS tapes, then give the options above a try. Sure, you're not going to gets $1,000s for your tapes, unless you have a huge collection of them, but you could pick up anywhere from $1 to $50 per tape.
